Wednesday's Top 25 College Men's Basketball Capsules

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Harrison Barnes scored 10 of his 20 points during the decisive second-half surge to help No. 5 North Carolina rally past No. 9 Wisconsin 60-57 on Wednesday night.

Tyler Zeller added 12 points for the Tar Heels (6-1) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Coming off its first loss of the season, North Carolina trailed by five points midway through the second half before going on an 18-5 run that finally put the Tar Heels ahead for good.

Barnes knocked down two 3-pointers and a jumper in the spurt.

Jordan Taylor had 18 points to lead Wisconsin (6-1), which held North Carolina to 42 percent shooting. That included a 6-minute scoreless stretch in the first half, but the Badgers didn't fare any better (36 percent).

North Carolina's John Henson finished one shy of a career-high with 17 rebounds.

No. 15 KANSAS 77, FLORIDA ATLANTIC 54

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Thomas Robinson had 19 points and 17 rebounds for his sixth straight double-double and Kansas overcame some sloppiness on offense.

Playing their first home game in nearly three weeks, the Jayhawks (4-2) committed 17 turnovers that turned into several easy baskets for the Owls (4-4). But the play underneath by Robinson, the reigning Big 12 player of the week, was enough to carry them to victory.

Tyshawn Taylor added 18 points, Travis Releford had 11 and Jeff Withey 10 for Kansas, which hadn't played at Allen Fieldhouse since a season-opening win over Towson on Nov. 11.

Much of the Jayhawks' success came from the free throw line, where they were 24 of 31 - it certainly didn't come from the 3-point arc, where they were just 4 of 13.

Dennis Mavin and Pablo Bertone scored points 17 each for the Owls, who have lost nine straight against ranked teams.

No. 17 PITTSBURGH 80, DUQUESNE 69

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ashton Gibbs scored 18 points and Pittsburgh beat Duquesne for the 11th straight time in the annual City Game.

Dante Taylor added 15 points and Lamar Patterson scored 10 for the Panthers (6-1), who dominated the glass to overcome serious turnover problems.

Sean Johnson led Duquesne (4-3) with 19 points.

Pitt outrebounded the Dukes 39-15 to offset 23 turnovers. The Panthers never trailed over the game's final 30 minutes but struggled putting Duquesne away.

Each time the Dukes drew close, Gibbs would answer with a big shot, including consecutive 3-pointers during a 14-6 run midway through the second half that gave Pitt some needed breathing room.

No. 18 UNLV 94, UC Santa Barbara 88, 2OT

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Mike Moser scored 34 points and Chace Stanback had all 19 of his after halftime for UNLV.

The Rebels (8-0) won their first game as a Top 25 team. They were coming off a 90-80 victory over then-No. 1 North Carolina.

Moser came into the game as the nation's leading rebounder, but he made six 3-pointers, including five in the second half. The sophomore forward, whose previous career-high was 23 points, had 10 rebounds.

Orlando Johnson led the Gauchos (4-2) with 36 points and 10 rebounds. It was the second consecutive overtime defeat for UCSB, which lost 76-75 to San Diego State in its previous game.

After UCSB took an 81-78 lead with 13 seconds remaining in the first overtime on three free throws by James Nunnally, Stanback nailed a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left to force a second overtime.

No. 19 GONZAGA 73, NOTRE DAME 53

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Robert Sacre scored 15 points to lead Gonzaga.

David Stockton scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, Kevin Pangos added 12 and Elias Harris had 11 points and 15 rebounds for Gonzaga (5-0). Nine players scored for the Bulldogs, who shot 45.9 percent from the field and made six of 15 3-point attempts.

Jerian Grant scored 16 points for Notre Dame (5-3) and Pat Connaughton added 11. The Irish made 20 of 52 shots, were forced into 17 turnovers and were outrebounded 40-32.

No. 25 TEXAS A&M 56, ALCORN ST. 44

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Ray Turner scored 16 points and Texas A&M overcame a sleepy start and awful shooting for its 64th consecutive nonconference home win.

David Loubeau added 14 points and Naji Hibbert had eight rebounds for the Aggies (5-1).

KeDorian Sullivan led the Braves (1-6) with 11 points and eight rebounds.

A&M missed all 17 of its 3-point attempts. The Aggies outscored Alcorn State 20-2 on the fast break, and 42-26 in the paint.

A&M shot only 40.3 percent (25 of 62) for the game, while Alcorn was at 32.7 percent (18 of 55).
