PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Filmmaker Tyler Perry is expressing his support for an alleged victim in the Penn State child sex-abuse case.
The producer and director makes his comments in an open letter published by Newsweek, calling the alleged victim a hero for coming forward.
Perry went public last year with his own story of childhood sexual abuse.
Authorities in Pennsylvania have charged former assistant Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky with molesting eight boys over 15 years. Sandusky says he is innocent.
In his letter, Perry says it was courageous for a then 11-year-old boy to report alleged abuse. Perry says he didn't have such courage when he was that age.
Perry says when he finally did tell a family member about his own abuse, the relative did not believe him.
