Holts Summit man arrested for DWI in Maries County

Maries County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Holts Summit man on Wednesday night after investigating a report of an intoxicated driver traveling down Ball Park Road just outside of Vienna.

As deputies were traveling behind the suspect vehicle, it nearly struck a bridge on the wrong side of the roadway, the sheriff's department reported in a news release.

After further investigation, deputies arrested Edward G. Pecher III, 48, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended and careless and imprudent driving. While officers attempted to arrest Pecher, he allegedly resisted, and they later used pepper spray to subdue him.

The sheriff's department reports Pecher has an extensive criminal history, and is a chronic DWI offender, with guilty pleas to driving offenses recorded in Boone, Callaway and Cole counties.

Pecher remains in the Maries County Jail pending warrant application.
