Ameren crews aiding Irene victims

ST. LOUIS (AP) - When ice storms and thunderstorms downed power lines in eastern Missouri in recent years, utility workers from around the country arrived to help Ameren Corp. worker restore electricity. Now, the St. Louis-based utility is returning the favor.

KTVI-TV (http://bit.ly/oYs3q2 ) reports that Ameren workers from the St. Louis area are on the East Coast helping to restore power in the wake of Hurricane Irene.

They include around 100 workers from the Illinois side of the river who are in Vermont, and 63 who are in New Jersey.

The company says the workers could be gone up to three weeks.
