St. Louis suburb to add mobile speed camera

VINITA PARK, Mo. (AP) — First there were red-light cameras, then cameras to catch speeders. Now, the St. Louis suburb of Vinita Park is going a step further, with mobile speed cameras.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/p5EPnl ) reports that Vinita Park aldermen recently voted to add a patrol car equipped with radar detection and cameras that will photograph a speeding car’s license plate. The vehicle’s registered owner will get a ticket in the mail.

Mayor James McGee says a mobile unit allows for more flexibility for speed monitoring than a stationary camera.

The car and equipment are valued at about $100,000. They’re provided by Redflex Traffic Systems of Phoenix, which provides mobile units or red-light cameras to about 250 communities around the nation.

The company is paid $30 per citation.

This will be overturned in court because of the ticket mailing unless they can prove who was driving the car then it denies due process.

They do actually, unless the photo shows the driver. It's just that most people don't fight them.

Quadruple the fine if you're caught texting on camera too.
