Charges filed over a shooting at JC bar

A Jefferson City man was charged in connection with a shooting at a local bar early Thursday morning.

According to court documents, Shane Hodges, 23, 5928 Business 50 West, was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, one count of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and receiving stolen property.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement showed officers were called to Spectators Sports Bar, 2103 Missouri Boulevard, around 1 a.m.

Hodges had been asked to leave for causing a disturbance involving another bar patron.

Once outside the business, Hodges waited for the other patron and confronted him.

The two got into a physical confrontation during which Hodges pulled a handgun and fired three times.

The patron told police he knocked the gun out of Hodges hand and several individuals took Hodges to the ground, holding him until police arrived.

An employee of Spectators and another patron, not involved in the altercation, both received physical injuries as a result of Hodges discharging the firearm.

Witnesses said Hodges displayed the weapon earlier in the night and indicated he would harm others.

The weapon, a Baylor 7.65 mm semi-automatic handgun and two shell casings, were recovered at the scene.

The weapon was later determined to have been stolen.

When interviewed by police, Hodges denied owning a weapon or firing a gun.
