Mo. Lottery to boost ads for Powerball changes

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri Lottery plans to spend nearly $1 million advertising the Powerball game to counteract an expected drop in sales when ticket prices double early next year.
Lottery executive director May Scheve Reardon says the agency will take several steps to finance the advertising campaign. The lottery will forgo repaving its parking lot and replacing some vehicles and will delay upgrades of computer software and equipment.
Powerball tickets are sold in 42 states and currently cost $1. Prices are to rise to $2 in January as part of a makeover that also will increase the odds of winning and double the minimum jackpot to $40 million.
Reardon said the advertising surge is needed to help offset an expected 28 percent decline in sales when the ticket price rises.
