Starting Monday, Aug. 29, weather permitting, Missouri 179 between Route C and Edgewood Drive in Jefferson City will close to all traffic as part of construction for the new diamond interchange project near where the new St. Mary's Health Center is being built.
179 will remained closed at this location for approximately three months so that crews can remove the existing highway and excavate for Mission Drive, the new roadway that will pass underneath the highway and lead to the new hospital development.
During the closure, a new 179 bridge will be built over Mission Drive.
Motorists can detour around the work area by using U.S. 50, U.S. 54 and Route C.
While 179 is scheduled to reopen sometime in November, the entire interchange project will take approximately a year to complete.
