Luetkemeyer: Washington in-fighting part of design

The Barack Obama family went on vacation this weekend - and is taking a lot of heat because the President of the United States is on vacation instead of working on the nation's problems.

The complaint is similar to ones voiced earlier this month, when members of Congress left Washington, D.C., for their summer break - with some members traveling overseas and others returning to their home districts.

But there's been almost no vacation from the political rhetoric and finger-pointing, with complaints of lack-of-leadership by one individual or another or by one party against the other.

"The other day, we had a question from the press about the dysfunctionality of Congress," U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, a Republican from St. Elizabeth, told Rotary Club members in Jefferson City last Monday.

"Well, if you stop to think about it, it's really operating just exactly the way our forefathers designed this thing!"
