Your Opinion: Response to Smith, Bachant on economy

Dear Editor:

It appears, no it’s obvious that I have struck a raw nerve with Joseph Bachant and Tony Smith. Mr. Bachant was defending Mr. Haslag, I still say he is lying about the trickle down facts. Mr. Smith says I am inspired by the gods? I am not sure which “gods” he is referring to.

I will not relinquish my right to free speech as Bachant implored me to do. I don’t want to put Bachant in to his place (as he put it.) I want him to wake up. So I have picked my brush up and will assure you, Bachant, that I will not go along with you to get along and really don’t care if you vote Republican or Democratic. You have the right, no matter how wrong you are.

Mr. Smith referred to the Arthur Laffer. The Laffer theorem is beyond challenge in itself; the claim is that tax revenues can be so high as to dry up their sources. Reagan’s economic program took effect in 1982; the economy took off and grew at an average annual rate of 4.3 percent. You see Smith gave you half the story.

During the Reagan era Gross Domestic Product grew substantially. Overall the economy expanded by a third, or the equivalent of the entire West German economy. That was the result of trickle down economics .

During the economic expansion following Reagan’s tax cuts, the economy grew faster, experienced stronger revenue growth, created more jobs, and saw more rapid income growth than experienced under the high tax polices of Bush number one and Clinton. That would be trickle down.

Unlike Smith, I do not believe in an upper class, lower class or class warfare. I do not believe in punishing people for being successful. I again say, it is small businesses that are the fuel that runs the economy. That’s just a fact. Am I lying? You liberals can be the judge of that or think again about who you put in office.

No Mr. Smith, I am not “mean spirited”. I believe people should be responsible for their own actions. You want to take my money by force, using the government, and give to whom ever you deem worthy. It is of my opinion that I can make that decision with my money better than the government can.

You wild-eyed liberal boys take a deep breath have a group hug on me, but that won’t get the bulldog fed.
