Outdoor venue at Jefferson City church to host concert
Friday, August 19, 2011
On a wooded slope, but in view from Jefferson City's Southwest Boulevard, The Vine hopes to spread the word that the intimate, outdoor concert venue is available to the community.
Local Christian rock band Almost Taken will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday under the outdoor pavilion beside Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1529 Southwest Blvd. Columbia band The Resign also will perform.
This is the third in the outdoor summer concert series, with another expected at the end of September. And organizer Kyle Bellinger hopes to have a solid, monthly concert series May through October in 2012.
Almost Taken has played at several area churches recently and is looking forward to the United As One Festival at the Capitol on Aug. 27 and the Centralia Redemption Fest on Sept. 10.
But the unique outdoor venue at The Vine should be a fun place to let loose with their modern rock sound with a Christian message, said lead singer Josh Crossland.
“We want to promote it as another venue for musicians to do a concert,” Bellinger said.
The venue has a 10-by-20 stage and built-in seating for about 60. However, the intimate setting features a grassy slope for lawn chairs or blankets.
Admission is free, and the hosts will provide electricity and refreshments. Call (573) 230-5878 for more information.
