Drug task force loses federal funding

The Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force saw 364 methamphetamine possessions in 2009, and 97 meth lab seizures last year, and found five active meth labs in production within its seven-county coverage area last month alone.

However, news of the federal government's cancellation of about $1.5 million in funding to the Missouri Sheriff Methamphetamine Action Relief Team (MO SMART) program can jeopardize continued meth lab, possession, production and distribution busts that have launched Missouri to a No. 1 rating in methamphetamine incidents as of May, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
