Judge reduces sentence for defendant in KC killing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A judge has reduced the sentence for a 17-year-old who sat in a car outside a Kansas City home while a group went inside, ransacked the place and killed the owner.

The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/oXyyLx) reported that Joseph Hendrix was ordered Thursday to serve 14 years for his role in the May 2010 killing of 49-year-old businessman Michael Tutera.

Hendrix initially was sentenced to 25 years. That's the same sentence his 18-year-old brother got, and he allegedly fired the deadly shot.

Judge Sandra C. Midkiff said it seemed "inappropriate" for the younger Hendrix to get the same sentence as the triggerman.

Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor Michael Hunt objected to the sentencing change.

Midkiff says she regrets any additional grief she may have caused Tutera's family.
