New hospital given height variance
Wednesday, August 10, 2011
The new St. Mary’s Health Center complex on Missouri 179 has been approved for a building height of 120 feet and a 680-square-foot sign, 120 feet above grade.
At the Jefferson City Board of Adjustment meeting Tuesday, representatives from St. Mary’s, as well as contractors and architects for the project, presented plans for the new complex, which exceeds city code in signage and building height. The hospital will be relocating to the new site by 2015.

And the tallest ladder/tower trucks on the JCFD are 100 ft? Don't blame the city when the top 2 floors burn. Did the Board of Adjustment fail to consider safety?

You mean most of the state workers in the Jefferson Building will just have to burn up if it catches on fire?

At least now we know why there aren't any skycra-pers in Jefferson City! We don't want any buildings taller than 100 feet in this town!
(stupid filter that tells me to "Watch my Mouth".

The building code is there for a reason. Yes sprinkler systems and fire doors and standpipes can and will no doubt be constructed. My point is, the taller the building goes the more risk there is to the inhabitants because the fire dept cannot get a ladder truck to that floor. A fire and resulting poisonous gases in a single office or room can be contained to that room when a ladder truck can break the windows out to vent just that room and put the fire out. If you have to go in through the door of that room you expose the rest of the hallway to the heat, flames, poison gas, and smoke. It's just common sense. Do you want a fire in one room or on a floor? Comparing NYC to JC, now THAT's a laugh.
