Ex-lawmaker named to university board

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A former state lawmaker has been named to the Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors.

Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Chuck Surface to the university governing board. Surface, a Republican, was first elected to the Missouri House in 1984 and served in the Legislature for 18 years. He also was the presiding commissioner of Jasper County and served on the Joplin City Council.

The appointment to the Missouri Southern State University board runs until 2016.
