LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lindsay Whalen scored a season-high 24 points and the Minnesota Lynx extended their franchise-best winning streak to nine games with an 84-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday night.

Seimone Augustus had 19 points and Rebekkah Brunson scored 18 for Minnesota (16-4). Whalen, the league's assists leader, had eight.

DeLisha Milton-Jones led the Sparks (7-13) with 18 points, while Tina Thompson had 17.

Leading by 15 points with 4:49 left, the Lynx fended off a late rally. The Sparks went on a 13-2 run, using six straight points from Ticha Penicheiro to pull to 78-74 with 59 seconds to go. The Lynx then made three free throws to seal it.

Sky 88, Fever 69

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Sylvia Fowles and Shay Murphy scored 21 points each and Chicago snapped a seven-game losing streak to first-place Indiana.

Cathrine Kraayeveld added 12 points, Tamera Young had 10 and Fowles also had 12 rebounds for the Sky (10-12).

Katie Douglas scored 14 points and Tangela Smith had 10 for first-place Indiana (15-7), which had won six straight overall.

Chicago led 35-34 at halftime and used a big third quarter to take command. Kraayeveld hit a three 3-pointers to help the Sky to a 60-47 lead by the end of the third.

Chicago led by as many as 16 points in the final quarter and only once saw its lead slip under double digits.

Sun 96, Mercury 95, OT

PHOENIX (AP) - Tina Charles made a 12-footer with 5 seconds left in overtime, and the shot clock about to expire, to lift Connecticut.

Renee Montgomery scored 28 points, Asjha Jones had 27 and Charles finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds to help the Sun (13-7) win their third straight and seventh in the last eight.

Diana Taurasi scored 29 points, and DeWanna Bonner added 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Mercury (11-9), who have lost five of six. Candice Dupree had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Nakia Sanford added nine points and nine rebounds.

Taurasi, who also had eight rebounds and six assists, missed a jumper and Candice Dupree missed a 14-footer at the buzzer.

Bonner's layup off a turnover on the inbounds pass with 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation forced overtime.

Dream 70, Storm 53

ATLANTA (AP) - Angel McCoughtry scored 17 points, Erika de Souza added 13 and Atlanta snapped a two-game losing streak.

In a rematch of last year's WNBA finals, the defending champion Storm (12-9) committed 29 turnovers, tying the league's single-game high this season. Swin Cash scored 16 points and reserve guard Katie Smith had 11 for Seattle, which ended a three-game winning streak.

Coco Miller had 10 points for the Dream (9-11). Atlanta's Armintie Price was carried off the court after twisting her left ankle late in the second quarter. She finished with eight points, four assists and three steals in 16 minutes.

Seattle was outscored 20-2 in second-chance points.

Cash and Sue Bird combined for 12 turnovers and five assists.
