Gregory A. Dale of Duke University will be making a pair of presentations designed for parents and coaches Sunday at the Miller Performing Arts Center in Jefferson City.
Dale, a professor of sports psychology and sports ethics at Duke, is also the director of sport psychology and leadership programs for the university's athletic department.
From 4-5:15 p.m., Dale will have a presentation for parents, "The Sport Parent: Helping Your Child Maximize His or Her Potential."
In this session, Dale will ask parents to analyze the type of environment they are creating for their children. Scheduled topics to be discussed include: the coach-athlete-parent triangle; lessons parents want children to learn from sports and the importance of those lessons, and effective goal-setting parents can use with their children.
All parents who have children participating in sports - whether it's the youth or high school level - are encouraged to attend.
From 6-9 p.m., Dale will have a presentation geared toward coaches, "Developing the Credible Coach: A Model for Success."
It will emphasize the importance of earning credibility with athletes as well as the dynamics of group development and productivity.
All area coaches - youth and high school - are invited to attend.
Both presentations are free and open to the public. Jefferson City High School is sponsoring the event.
