Highway Patrol searching for trooper in NW Missouri

MOUND CITY, Mo. (AP) — Authorities are looking for a Highway Patrol trooper who was last seen near a lake in northwest Missouri where he’s been helping with flood relief efforts.

The patrol says the trooper is with the Water Patrol Division and was last seen early Monday afternoon near Big Lake. His K-9 partner is also missing.

Sgt. Sheldon Lyon tells KMBC-TV that the trooper’s vehicle, with its boat attached, has been found. His name hasn’t been released.

Lyon says the water has a current and the area has miles of flooded fields, which is complicating the search. Teams are searching from the land, water and air.

Lyon says many of the searchers know the trooper, which is making the search more difficult.

Big Lake is about 10 miles southwest of Mound City.
