Hearing reset on murder charge

FULTON — The preliminary hearing for Sandra G. Plunkett, 37, Holts Summit, on a first-degree murder charge was delayed a third time Friday in Callaway County Associate Circuit Court.
Associate Circuit Judge Carol England rescheduled Plunkett’s preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. June 3 in the Callaway County Associate Circuit Court.
For the third time, Plunkett was reported to be too ill to attend the hearing. She was represented in court by Justin Carver, a public defender.
Plunkett is accused of killing her husband, Paul Plunkett, 52, a former Jefferson City police officer, by shooting him in the back of his head on New Year’s Day with a .22-caliber rifle.
She remains in custody without bond.
Plunkett’s husband was a retired Jefferson City police officer who worked for the department from 1989-2008. At the time of his death, he operated Bias Pest Control Co. from his home at 283 Major Terrace in Holts Summit.
Plunkett originally told Holts Summit police officers she was outside the home on Jan. 1 when she saw a man dressed in camouflage with a gun walking down the street. She said when she entered her home she found her husband on the floor, shot in the back of the head.
In a probable cause statement, authorities reported she changed her account of the killing. Police said she confessed to the killing, and showed law enforcement officers a Marlin .22-caliber rifle she had earlier discarded after the shooting.
