Forecast causes concern as lake begins to drop

BRANSON, Mo. (AP) - Even as the water on Table Rock Lake drops from record-high levels, officials worry about a weekend forecast for more rain.

The lake crested at 935.47 feet Wednesday but has dropped steadily since then.

Lake Manager Greg Oller says officials hope to reduce water levels to 931 feet by Sunday. He says releases of 68,000 cubic feet per second at Table Rock Dam will continue until that level is reached.

But National Weather Service forecaster Mike Griffin says up to 2 inches of rain could fall in the area between Saturday and Monday.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Branson officials also are wary of more rain impacting Lake Taneycomo. They say the owners of 30 homes evacuated along Lake Taneycomo likely will not be able to return before next week.
