Your Opinion: Control growth of government

Dear Editor:

Government control or control government. That is the decision of the people of this United States. If we wish to remain a free country we must take back control of our government. We must keep pressure on our senators and representatives in Washington, D.C., to downsize the government.

In the 2012 election we have to replace the status quo people in Washington, D.C.

President Obama stated a couple of weeks ago, "It can't be my way or the highway politics," but the fact is that has been the way for the past two years and that will not change unless he and his administration are forced to change.

After a month of partisan bickering there was about a one percent cut in government spending. This is completely unacceptable.

Stephen Moore wrote in the Wall Street Journal, government employed 22.5 million, manufacturing employed 11.5 million. Something is wrong with this picture. These numbers should be reversed.

All our people in Washington need to do is cut duplication and overlapping agencies and programs. They can cut government spending by 100 billion in expenditures as easy as cutting cake.

They have the Government Accountability Office study: 15 agencies overseeing food safety laws, 20 programs to help the homeless, 80 programs on economic development, by now they may have 20 agencies or more on health care and four agencies regulating catfish.

I can remember not long ago we had a little over 200 agencies, now we have over 2,000 government agencies.

Hope you get the picture, government out of control.

Call your senators and representatives and keep the pressure on.
