JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri voters would be asked to change the state's term limits for lawmakers under a proposed constitutional amendment passed by the state Senate.
State House and Senate members currently are limited to about eight years in each chamber. The proposal by Democratic Sen. Tim Green, of St. Louis, would ask voters in 2012 whether to change that to allow a total of 16 years in the Legislature. Those 16 years could be spent entirely in one chamber or split in any way among the two bodies.
The Senate passed the measure 29-4 on Thursday, sending it to the House.
Missouri voters approved term limits in 1992.
