Absentee voting begins for special sales tax election

Applications are being accepted for absentee voting through June 6 for those wishing to vote in the Cole County Clerk's Office for the June 7 election on the renewal of the county's half-cent capital improvements sales tax.

Those who would like to apply for a ballot for a family member in the Armed Forces, college or confined to the home due to illness or physical disability should do so as soon as possible so the ballots have ample time to get back to the clerk's office by June 7.

All ballots mailed out by the clerk must be received by 7 p.m. election day.

The latest an absentee ballot can be mailed out will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 1.

The clerk's office will be open from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 4, for those wishing to vote absentee. The last absentee ballots can be cast in the clerk's office at 5 p.m. Monday, June 6.

Anyone who might be out of town for the election should call the clerk's office at 634-9101 if they want to obtain a ballot.
