Mid-Missouri woman sentenced for setting fires as man slept

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri woman has been sentenced to probation for trying to burn down her trailer home while her boyfriend slept inside.

Fifty-seven-year-old Donna Book, of Columbia, pleaded guilty in February to first-degree arson. The Columbia Daily Tribune reports a Boone County judge sentenced Book on Monday to 10 years, but suspended the prison time in exchange for five years of supervised probation.

Police went to Book's home last Oct. 30 after a neighbor spotted smoke and found a pair of jeans and a pillow on fire. The pillow was on a bed where Book's 64-year-old boyfriend was sleeping. He was unharmed.

The boyfriend told police Book had also set fire to a blanket in his bed two days earlier.
