ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - John Lackey threw eight superb innings, Carl Crawford hit his first home run in a Boston uniform and the Red Sox completed a pitching-dominated four-game sweep by beating the Los Angeles Angels 7-0 Sunday.
Boston won its fifth in a row.
Lackey (2-2) scattered six hits, struck out six and stranded eight baserunners, becoming the third straight Boston starter to hold the Angels scoreless. The right-hander, who spent his first eight big league seasons with the Angels, is 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four starts against them.
Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and two RBIs for the Red Sox.
Matt Palmer (1-1) allowed four runs and six hits in five-plus innings.
Rays 2, Blue Jays 0
TORONTO (AP) - James Shields pitched a four-hitter for his second consecutive complete game, Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
Shields (2-1) struck out seven, walked two and lowered his ERA to 2.35. The Rays won for the 10th time in 14 games following a 1-8 start.
Shields threw just 95 pitches, wrapping up the game in a brisk 2 hours, 5 minutes. The right-hander also threw a four-hitter against the Chicago White Sox last Tuesday.
Ricky Romero (1-3) lost despite striking out 10 in seven innings.
Yankees 6, Orioles 3, 11 innings
BALTIMORE (AP) - Russell Martin singled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning after Mariano Rivera gave up the lead in the ninth, and the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles for a two-game sweep.
The thriller of a game had a bit of everything, including a 40-minute rain delay in the 11th inning. Baltimore rallied from a three-run deficit against Joba Chamberlain and Rivera; both teams had the go-ahead run thrown out at the plate in the late innings; and the Yankees ultimately won on the strength of three infield hits and a couple of Baltimore errors in a wild 11th.
Boone Logan (1-1) got four outs, and Buddy Carlyle retired the final two batters. Jason Berken (0-1) took the loss.
Derek Jeter had four hits for Yankees.
Tigers 3, White Sox 0
DETROIT (AP) - Max Scherzer allowed four hits in eight outstanding innings, and the Detroit Tigers beat Chicago to finish a three-game sweep of the struggling White Sox.
Scherzer (4-0) struck out seven and walked three, helping Detroit shut out Chicago for a second straight day. After Brad Penny took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning Saturday, Scherzer made it to the fifth with one before allowing A.J. Pierzynski's leadoff single.
Chicago has lost 10 of 11 and now must head to New York for a four-game series against the Yankees. John Danks (0-3) allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked two.
Detroit has won nine straight over the White Sox.
Rangers 8, Royals 7
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - C.J. Wilson struck out 10 in seven innings, Adrian Beltre hit one of Texas' three home runs and the Rangers completed a three-game weekend sweep over the Kansas City Royals.
Wilson (3-0) overcame giving up his first two homers of the season with his third career double-digit strikeout game.
Mike Aviles homered twice for the Royals, including a three-run shot with two outs in the ninth off Brett Tomko.
Arthur Rhodes then got the final out for his first save since 2008. The 41-year-old left-hander became the oldest player to get a save for Texas, only a day after 40-year-old Darren Oliver set that mark with regular closer Neftali Feliz on the disabled list.
Mike Napoli and Andres Blanco also homered for the Rangers. Kansas City has lost eight straight at Texas.
Twins 4, Indians 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jason Kubel had a two-run double in the seventh inning that lifted the Minnesota Twins over the Cleveland Indians.
Carl Pavano (2-2) gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings. Justin Morneau added two hits and two RBIs for the Twins, who took a pair of rain-shortened games to win their first series of the season.
Matt Capps picked up his fourth save in five tries.
Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo kept the Indians in it by throwing two Twins out at home plate in the third inning.
Rafael Perez (2-1) took the loss after giving up an unearned run on the double by Kubel. Indians starter Carlos Carrasco left the game after three innings with tightness in his right elbow.
Athletics 5, Mariners 2
SEATTLE (AP) - Coco Crisp had three hits, scored three runs and stole a base, and Brett Anderson pitched seven strong innings as the Oakland A's earned a series split with a win over the Seattle Mariners.
Crisp has six hits in his last two games, breaking a skid that saw him bat just .175 over the previous 15 games to help spark a previously dormant Oakland offense.
Anderson (2-1) allowed one earned run and struck out six.
Brian Fuentes came on in the eighth inning and struck out three of his four batters in picking up the four-out save. It was his sixth save in seven chances.
Josh Willingham hit a go-ahead double in the seventh off Aaron Laffey (0-1).
