Wet weather causes sports schedule shuffle

The wet weather caused some shuffling in the area sports schedule.

The Capital City Soccer Invitational, scheduled for Friday and today, was called off and will not be rescheduled.

Both Jefferson City (4-10) and Helias (8-5) will resume action Tuesday on the road. The Lady Jays will play at Sedalia Smith-Cotton, while the Lady Crusaders are slated to play at Fulton.

Today's baseball game between the Jefferson City Jays and Helias Crusaders at Vivion Field has been postponed. The game is now scheduled for Thursday, May 5.

The Jays (12-4) are now scheduled to play Thursday at Fatima. Helias (10-3) will play Monday at Kirksville and Tuesday at Blair Oaks.

The weather also shook up the schedule for the Lincoln softball team.

The Blue Tigers were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday with Nebraska-Omaha and another Saturday with Northwest Missouri State. But after getting rained out, Lincoln and UNO moved the twinbill to today, with games set for 10 a.m. and noon.

However, Northwest Missouri State will still get to play in Jefferson City. The Bearcats and Truman State were supposed to play Friday in Kirksville, but wet grounds prevented them from doing so either Friday or today. As a result, Northwest and Truman are coming to town to play at Lincoln Field after the Lincoln-UNO showdown, with games tentatively set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Weather permitting, Lincoln and Northwest could reschedule their doubleheader for Sunday, although no decision had been made as of press time.
