Cole County commissioners hope within a couple of weeks to come up with a plan for property they took control of after an emergency situation in 2009.
At the start of 2010, the commission approved accepting the deed to transfer the Renns Lake to the county from the Renn family and breach the dam at the lake.
Emergency crews and volunteers spent several days at the end of October and beginning of November 2009 working to keep the dam from collapsing after heavy rainfall. Had there been a breach, the fear was it could have caused a wall of water that would have flooded nearby U.S. 54.
At that time, Renn family members told the commission they had limited resources and couldn't do the work needed to fix the problem.
