Lincoln football team outlasts lightning, hail to play intrasquad scrimmage

When you have a limited amount of time to install a new system, you can't let anything stand in your way.

Not even lightning or hail.

The Lincoln football team had an unplanned 30-minute interruption thanks to Mother Nature, but still managed to practice Friday morning.

The workout at the Lincoln practice field included the Blue Tigers' second intrasquad scrimmage of the spring, lasting about 30 plays, and a sight more common in baseball than football - a weather delay.

With lightning in the area, the players retreated to the locker room at Dwight T. Reed Stadium for a half-hour delay that included pea-sized hail falling for a few minutes. The Blue Tigers then returned for the scrimmage that left new coach Mike Jones less than impressed.

"The field wasn't in the best of condition, so we had some issues with that," he said. "But no matter what the conditions are, we've still got to practice well, and we didn't do that (Friday)."
