Thompson returns to familiar surroundings as Jays’ new coach

The former Jefferson City Jays basketball standout was introduced Thursday at Fleming Fieldhouse as the new boys basketball coach.

“It’s good to be back here,” Thompson said. “… I’ve been gone for about 13 years and been busy with my own career and haven’t been back as much as I’d like. But to be coming back here, it’s just a great feeling.

“It feels like home.”

Thompson, a 1998 graduate of Jefferson City High School, has coached the last three seasons at Sullivan High School, where he put together a 52-24 record.
