Blue Tigers lose to Missouri Western at MIAA tourney

KANSAS CITY - The Lincoln women's tennis team ended its season with a 5-4 loss to Missouri Western State University in the play-in match of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament Wednesday morning.

The Blue Tigers, seeded ninth, went 3-3 in their singles matches at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. They needed to win two doubles matches to advance in the tournament but picked up just one victory.

Camila Araujo defeated Nicole Kerr (6-2, 6-4), Shelby Penno knocked off Sophia Robertson (7-6, 6-3) and Tierra Phillips won her match against Katie Field (6-3, 7-5) for Lincoln's three wins.

Mindy Buschbom defeated Lincoln's Alina Katrevich (2-6, 6-2, 6-2), Sarah Hatten was a winner against the Blue Tigers' Victoria Banks (6-0, 6-0) and Western's Erin Ward defeated Lincoln's Ashley Williams (6-0, 6-1).

In doubles, Katrevich-Phillips defeated Kerr-Ward (8-6) for Lincoln's only win. Western came back with two victories. Buschbom-Robertson defeated Araujo-Penno (8-5) and Field-Hatten beat Banks-Williams (8-1).

The Blue Tigers end the season with a 1-11 record.
