Man sought in trooper scuffle surrenders in KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A man has surrendered to Kansas City authorities after being sought for allegedly stealing a gun from a Missouri state trooper.

Kansas City police said the suspect surrendered Wednesday afternoon and has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the incident began early Wednesday when police in the northwest Missouri town of Cameron chased a stolen pickup truck. The trooper joined the pursuit and confronted the man when the pickup crashed north of Kansas City.

The trooper scuffled with the man, who grabbed the officer's gun and fired a shot. The trooper was unhurt.

Authorities say the man then stole a minivan and took off. Officers lost sight of the vehicle, which later turned up outside a home in eastern Kansas City, where he later surrendered.
