Ridgeway uses tax deadline to push ‘Fair’ tax

Hours before the midnight deadline for Missourians to file their state and federal income tax forms, and using Jefferson City’s Main Post Office as a backdrop, state Sen. Luann Ridgeway told reporters Monday afternoon it’s time to eliminate income taxes altogether.
“What we’re really seeking from the people is to answer this question: ‘Would you rather, on this tax day, not have to come here (to the Post Office) and pay more of your hard-earned tax dollars in an income tax but, instead, eliminate that and trade it out for a broad-based consumption tax, or a sales tax?’”
Ridgeway, R-Smithville, introduced a proposed Constitutional amendment last December to have voters approve that change — but her proposal ....
