KC mayor-elect keeps kids waiting at egg hunt

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A couple hundred children stood in chilly, windy conditions waiting for Kansas City’s mayor-elect to show up so they could start their Easter egg hunt.
Fliers for the hunt said it was to start at 11 a.m. Saturday, but it didn’t begin until 12:20 p.m. when Jackson County Sheriff Mike Sharp said the crowd wasn’t going to wait for Sly James any longer.
A spokeswoman for James says the mayor-elect was scheduled to be there at 12:30 p.m. and apologized for keeping the children waiting.
The Kansas City Star reports that some of the children — ranging from toddlers to pre-teens — showed up half an hour early to wait for the chance to hunt plastic candy-filled eggs.
James eventually showed up with Congressman Emanuel Cleaver.
