Haith adds another assistant coach to staff

New Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith continues to assemble his staff, as the school announced Friday the hiring of former Murray State assistant coach Isaac Chew.

"This is just an outstanding fit for our program," Haith said in a press release. "First of all, I have great respect for the work Isaac has put in to rise up the coaching ranks. He is a tireless worker and his players always come first to him.

"He is well-respected across the state of Missouri and bottom line, he is a winner. Whether at Indian Hills or at Murray State, his teams won and won big, and he was a big part of that success."

Chew, a native of Chicago, is familiar with Missouri. He played his college ball at Avila University in Kansas City and has been an AAU coach with the Kansas City Pump N' Run. That team helped produce current Tigers Marcus Denmon, Steve Moore and Michael Dixon.

"It's great to be coming back to Missouri and to be at Mizzou, with coach Haith, is a dream come true," Chew said in the release.

Chew was part of a winning program during his four seasons at Murray State. The Racers won 31 games during the 2009-10 season and advanced to the NCAA tournament second round. This past season, Murray State finished 23-9 and won the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title.

Chew also spent time coaching at Avila and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.

This is the fourth assistant Haith has hired this week. Earlier this week he announced the hiring of former Louisville assistant Tim Fuller, along with Ernie Nestor and Todor Pandov. Nestor has spent 42 years in coaching, the last six as Penn State's director of basketball operations, while Pandov was Haith's strength and conditioning coach at Miami.
