Authorities: Suspect admits to killing California man

CALIFORNIA, Mo. — A California man who will be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge this morning reportedly admitted to authorities that he killed the victim.

Jon Travis Shikles, 26, faces the charge for the beating death of Travis Dean Higgins, 31, also of California. Higgins’ body was found about 7 a.m. Thursday at the edge of an alley in the 400 block of Stella Street, less than three blocks from the courthouse square.

A half-mile from the body, an Oak Street apartment complex being investigated included an apartment listed as the victim’s residence.
