4 shot to death in northern Missouri

MODENA, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a man in the midst of a divorce apparently killed his estranged wife and two acquaintances before committing suicide in rural northern Missouri.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office identified the shooter Sunday as 50-year-old John Hufford and the victims as 37-year-old-Misty Hufford, 33-year-old Waylon Wages and 41-year-old Lisa Tunnell. All four were from the Princeton area.

Sheriff Stephen Stockman says officers discovered the bodies Saturday afternoon after receiving a report of a shooting southwest of the small town of Modena. He says it was "an apparent triple murder-suicide" and told the St. Joseph News-Press that the shooter killed his wife because the two were divorcing.

Modena is located about 95 miles northeast of St. Joseph.

A news release says the investigation is ongoing but no arrests are expected.
