Back in 2005, Roy Beal saw a story in the News Tribune about how volunteers were needed to help victims of a hurricane in Galveston, Texas.
"So I decided to hold my hand up," he said with a laugh.
Beal contacted the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross in Jefferson City and went through crash courses that eventually allowed him to go down to Houston to help house and shelter victims.
