Parents file suit against South Callaway district
Sunday, April 10, 2011
MOKANE, Mo. -- Parents of a South Callaway School District student are suing the district for allegedly violating the child's rights under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Roger and Sharon Miller of Mokane say, in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for Western Missouri, that a 2008 evaluation showed that their son has ADHD, but the district did nothing to determine that the boy had a disability.
Superintendent Mary Lynn Battles said the district was issued a public summons the latter part of March and, as of yet, no court date has been set.

When Did a School District become responsible for the diagnosis of a student where is Parental responsibility here. They suspect or is mentioned by district the child has ADHD they the parent is responsible for the diagnosis by a trained professional and then I am sure district would make necessary accommodations again parents being lazy

I agree. Why did not the PARENTS talk to the childs doctor? The PARENTS HAVE TO GIVE THE SCHOOL PERMISSION TO SPEAK WITH THE CHILDS PHYSICIAN , The teachers HAVE TO HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE PARENT BEFORE THEY CAN OFFER THEIR INPUT to the childs doctor..The assessment form is given to the parents and teachers from the childs primary health care provider. It is THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to speak to the physician about their children. The process starts with the PARENTS SPEAKING WITH THE CHILDS PHYSICIAN. The school is then asked ,WITH PARENTS PERMISSION ,for an assessment..Schools are to ACCOMODATE the child, not DIAGNOSE their health conditions, Jack Deeken

The parents couldn't tell there was an issue before the child started school? Is the school district raising the child or the parents? The parents need to step up and take responsibility.
