Missouri Senate gets redistricting plan
Tuesday, April 5, 2011
Mid-Missouri would remain split between two congressional districts, under a proposal the Missouri Senate’s Redistricting Committee endorsed unanimously Monday afternoon.
“Basically, all of these districts have 748,616 individuals,” committee Chairman Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, explained, “with the exception of (southwest Missouri’s) 7th Congressional District, which has one person less. ...
“Our committee’s intent was to make the districts equal in population (and) to try to make them as contiguous and compact as possible — and also take in to consideration the existing lines.”
The 7-0 committee vote sent the bill to the full Senate.
