Jefferson City Council expected to vote on festival district

Move would be trial run

The result of at least one vote at Monday night's Jefferson City Council meeting might be reason enough to celebrate for some people.

One of the three bills on which the council could vote would create a trial run for a festival district in downtown Jefferson City, allowing open containers on public streets if an event obtains a permit.

Although no council members indicated at Friday's brown bag meeting that they had intended to make a last-minute amendment to the bill, there was some discussion about challenges that will need to be addressed if the council wants to extend the program to a permanent ordinance.
