Since opening the season two weeks ago, the Jefferson City Jays had been waiting to get back on the field.
On Thursday, they got to release all that pent-up energy as the Jays put together a 13-hit effort in an 8-1 win in their home opener against Quincy, Ill., at Vivion Field.
“The kids had a lot of energy and excitement to play,” Jays coach Brian Ash said. “We’ve been practicing for two weeks after our first game and it was about time to see a different opponent other than ourselves.”
Quincy probably didn’t like it. The Blue Devils did have their chances early, as Jays starter Sean Waldrop gave up a leadoff double in the first and second innings.
