Jefferson City smoking ban has stringent supporters on either side

Factions work to disseminate information

There are plenty of things upon which people on both sides of Jefferson City's proposed smoking tax do not agree.

But there is one point where both seem to have found a middle ground - there is not much more either side can say about the issue than what has already been said.

For Kathi Harness and Felicia Poettgen with Smokefree Jeff City, that means driving home the fact their cause is first and foremost about health.

"It is all about health and it is not against smokers," Poettgen said.

For Jason Jordan, owner of Mortimer Kegley's and spokesman for the opposition to the ban, this isn't just like any other election. For him, this is an election that he said he feels will determine the livelihood of him and the rest of the bar and restaurant owners in Jefferson City.
