Missouri lt. gov. starts inquiry into Hammons' care

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder has launched an inquiry into the care and treatment of ailing Springfield hotel developer John Q. Hammons.

Kinder said in a news release that some of Hammons' friends had notified him of their concerns regarding Hammons' care and his business.

The Springfield News Leader reports that Hammons, who is 91 and a noted Springfield businessman and philanthropist, underwent heart surgery earlier this year.

Kinder said that as the state's "Official Senior Advocate," he takes these reports seriously. He did not detail what the complaints were regarding Hammons' care.
