Metro Transit in St. Louis overpaid pensioners

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A recent audit shows that the Metro transit agency in St. Louis overpaid some pensioners by more than $760,000.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 236 pensioners who were overpaid will be asked repay all or part of the overpayment with interest.

Metro officials also say 196 retirees received less than they were due because of the errors. Those retirees will be repaid $717,000, including interest, possibly as soon as Dec. 1.

Pension payments for all the retirees involved will be adjusted to the correct amounts.

Metro's new president, John Nations, said pensioners should be getting mailed notifications about the mixup early next week.
