Man serving life in Ohio convicted in Missouri

PLATTE CITY, Mo. (AP) - A man already serving a life prison sentence in Ohio for murder received a second life sentence for another murder in Missouri.

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd says 34-year-old John M. Hughes, of Oxford, Miss., was sentenced Thursday to life in prison in the Sept. 8, 2008, shooting death of Valentin G. Kirilchuk, of Springfield.

Kirilchuk was killed at an interstate rest area in northwest Missouri just days after Hughes robbed and stabbed 53-year-old David Durben in Zanesville, Ohio, to death.

Hughes is currently serving a life sentence in Ohio for those crimes.

Zahnd says Hughes' girlfriend, Dana Tutor, is charged with second-degree robbery and second- degree murder in Kirilchuk's death. She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16.
