Sun glare causes another accident

On Wednesday, Jefferson City police worked their second accident in recent weeks in which the sun's glare has been a contributing factor in a collision.

According to police department reports, Charles Burlingame, 69, Tipton, was going east on U.S. 50, a half-mile west of West Truman Boulevard, around 7:40 a.m.

Burlingame was temporarily blinded by the morning sun's glare and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Paul Kirchoff, 42, Jefferson City, who had stopped in traffic on the highway due to other traffic slowing down from the glare of the sun.

A passenger with Burlingame, Phillip Burlingame, 92, California, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia and was listed in serious condition Wednesday.
