YOUR OPINION: Evaluations of judges available

Dear Editor:

In every precinct in the state, Missouri voters will find the names of non-partisan judges on their ballots. Some voters may not know the judges, or they may feel they should know more before voting.

Fortunately, there is still time to learn about these judges. Judicial Performance Evaluation Committees have conducted thorough evaluations of every non-partisan judge on the ballot.

The committees are composed of an equal number of lawyers and non-lawyers. The committees have a completely non-partisan agenda: to provide voters with the unbiased information they need to cast an informed ballot.

The committees have published their evaluations along with surveys of lawyers' ratings, jurors' ratings and samples of appellate judge's written opinions. All this can be found at The Missouri Bar web site, www.mobar.org.

Everyone wants to make an informed vote, and everyone wants judges to be fair and impartial. By spending a few minutes at www.mobar.org before going to the polls, Missourians can meet both goals.
