Loose calf ties up traffic on U.S. 54

It took Jefferson City authorities about an hour and a half to corral a wayward calf that had gotten into the Monday morning traffic on U.S. 54.

Jefferson City Police reported the calf fell off a westbound truck that was hauling cattle to the Miller County Stock Yards.

This occurred just after 8 a.m., near South School where the highway crosses over Broadway Street and Linden Avenue.

One lane of traffic had to be shut down as authorities tried to get the calf corralled.

Eventually, Jefferson City Animal Control officers were able to tranquilize the calf, which ended up in a yard on Broadway.
