Helias, Lady Jays advance in district volleyball

SEDALIA, Mo. - The Helias Lady Crusaders and Jefferson City Lady Jays advanced into the Class 4 District 10 volleyball tournament semifinals with first-round wins Monday night.

Helias, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, handed seventh-seeded Rolla a 25-11, 25-8 defeat.

The Lady Crusaders will take on Lebanon, the No. 3 seed, at 6 p.m. today. Lebanon advanced with a win over Sedalia Smith-Cotton.

Holly Ortmeyer totaled nine points and six assists for the Lady Crusaders (28-4-1). Sidney Lammers finished with seven points and five assists, while Lauren Eggen had eight digs. Anna Murphy and Krista Haslag both had five kills. Murphy also had three blocks, while Haslag had two.

The Lady Jays moved into the district semifinal with a 25-18, 25-23 win over fifth-seeded Waynesville.

Jefferson City will take on top-seeded Camdenton at 5 p.m. today. Kristin Burnett led the Lady Jays (13-17) with eight kills, while teammates Abbi McKnelly chipped in with five and Katelyn Beck had four. Chezney Shorthose and Courtney Siebeneck had 10 assists apiece. Leah Washburn finished with five digs. The championship match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
