Boy Scout saves boy, 3, from pool

ST. CHARLES (AP) - An 8-year-old Boy Scout is being honored for saving a toddler from drowning in a suburban St. Louis YMCA swimming pool.

The 4-year scout, Connor Doherty of St. Charles, says he's proud of the rescue last November and the Boy Scouts of America "Medal of Merit" he got for it.

The award signifies his bravery and quick thinking. Doherty's mom recommended him for the coveted award honoring his efforts in saving 3-year-old Jackson Slager.

Connor says that after the boy fell into the pool and started to sink, Connor dove in and brought the boy to the surface. That's when Jackson's dad pulled his son to safety.

Connor has taken swimming lessons since he was an infant, and they paid off.
